Actions

Actions are named events that enable activity reporting.

Event ID System Event Description
1 Email Submitted This is an email that has been submitted to a local MTA (Mail Transfer Agent) within your farm.
2 Email Open An Email Open is counted when a hidden image in an HTML template is streamed from the mail systems content server. Hidden tracking images are embedded automatically in all outgoing HTML templates. Opens are counted only from HTML. Text template opens cannot be tracked. This number includes messages sent by the mailer and RSS.
5 Auto Reply An Auto Reply is counted when the receiving domain server returns a notice containing certain key words or phrases indicating the recipient has an auto-reply feature engaged.
6 Soft Unsubscribe A Soft Unsubscribe is counted when the recipient uses the unsubscribe method of replying with a keyword such as "Remove" in the subject line. A Soft Unsubscribe is a subset of Any Unsubscribe.
7 Update Info An Update Info is counted when a recipient updates their database info using EM's Preferences Page (an embedded database access form).
8 Flash Begin A Flash Begin is counted when a flash object in an email begins to stream. This is only applicable to messages with Flash content that has been properly formatted to communicate this action back to EM.
9 Flash End A Flash End is counted when a flash object in an email streams completely. This is only applicable to messages with Flash content that have been properly formatted to communicate this action back to EM.
11 Complaint A Complaint is counted when the receiving domain server returns a notice that the recipient complained about the incoming message using a "This is Spam" button or similar device in their email client. Complaint is a subset of Any Bounce.
12 Hard Unsubscribe Hard Unsubscribe is counted when the recipient uses the unsubscribe method of clicking on the "Unsubscribe" link within the email that opens a browser form with a direct link to EM's database. A Hard Unsubscribe is a subset of Any Unsubscribe.
13 RSS Submitted Messages sent through RSS only.  RSS-Only Sent is a subset of Messages Sent.
14 RSS Opened RSS-Only Messages opened (see Message Open for details on how an Open is tracked).  RSS Open is a subset of Message Opened.
15 RSS Subscribe A recipient has clicked the "RSS only" preference.  This only applies to accounts with this feature enabled.
17 Landing Page Landing Page is counted whenever a Message Open is recorded which is not from the main Content of a Creative. This indicates that a Content that was used exclusively as a landing page has been opened.
18 Open Timer (Not supported)
19 Mailer Error An error was encountered trying to submit this recipient to an MTA, because of a malformed email address for example.
20 Message Delivered A Message Delivered is counted when a message is sent through the mailer or RSS. It excludes any event where a message is not sent through the mailer such as unsubscribes suppressed prior to Send, records suppressed prior to Send that may have appeared on Suppression Lists or been blocked by Health Suppression.
21 Recipient Suppressed The recipient has been suppressed because they have unsubscribed globally.
22 Event Suppressed The recipient was suppressed due to the deployment's event suppression policy.
23 Field Suppressed The recipient was suppressed due to the deployment's field suppression policy.
24 List Suppressed The recipient was skipped because they are included in one of the selected suppression lists. Note that we do not log which list.
25 Health Suppressed The recipient was suppressed because their health was below the deployment's health threshold.
26 Remote Hard Bounce A Hard Bounce is a message that is bounced back to either the mailer or through inbound and is determined to be a permanent delivery failure. Hard Bounce is a subset of Any Bounce.
27 Remote Soft Bounce A Soft Bounce is a message that is bounced back to either the mailer or through inbound and is determined to be a temporary delivery failure. Soft Bounce is a subset of Any Bounce.
28 Remote Spam Bounce A Spam Bounce is counted when the receiving domain server returns a notice of non-delivery containing certain key words or phrases from a spam blocker indicating the message delivery was blocked. Typical reasons for blocked delivery include questionable message content, black-listed sender's domain, unknown sender's domain or excessive spam complaints at a receiving domain.  Spam bounce is a subset of Any Bounce.
29 Remote Mailbox Full A Mailbox Full is counted when the receiving domain server returns a notice of non-delivery containing certain key words or phrases indicating the message was not delivered because the recipient's mail box is full. Mailbox full is a subset of Any Bounce.
30 Local Hard Bounce The messages was refused by the local receiving MTA, with a message indicating that the address or domain is invalid.
31 Local Soft Bounce The message was received by the local receiving MTA, with no indication that the address is bad, or explicit information stating otherwise.
32 Local Spam Bounce The message was refused by the local receiving MTA with a message stating that the failure is due to spam filtering.
33 Local Mailbox Full The message was refused by the local receiving MTA with a message indicating that the destination address has reached its limit.
34 Local Complaint Will be registered when a recipient clicks the Report As Spam button.
35 Remote Complaint Registered when the receiving domain server returns a notice that the recipient complained about the incoming message using a "This is Spam" button or similar device in their email client. Complaint is a subset of Any Bounce.
36 Duplicate Suppression A message has been suppressed because the combination of mapped fields in the message is not unique for that deployment. For example, where there are two messages that have the same combination of First_name, Surname and Email_address, one of the messages will be suppressed.
37 Reply A reply has been logged that could not be classified.
41 Barcode Rendered An Email Manager generated Barcode has been displayed to the recipient.
42 Preference Optin Indicates the specified recipient opted into one or more preferences within a minute.
43 Preference Optout Indicates the specified recipient opted out of one or more preferences within a minute.

56 Any Unsubscribe Maps to "Hard Unsub" (12), "Soft Unsub" (6) and "Complaint" (11).
57 Message Sent Maps to "Email Submitted" (1) and "RSS Update" (15)  - it's mapped to submitted rather than sent for backwards compatibility with version 5.1.7.
58 Message Open Maps to "Email Open" (2) and "RSS Feed" (13).
59 Any Purchase Maps to all ROI events.
60 Any Suppressed Maps to "Recipient Suppressed" (21), "Event Suppressed" (22), "Field Suppressed" (23), "List Suppressed" (24) and "Health Suppressed" (25).  
61 Any Local Bounce Maps to "Local Hard Bounce" (30), "Local Soft Bounce" (31), Local Spam Bounce (32) and Local Mailbox Full (33). 
62 Any Remote Bounce Maps to "Remote Hard Bounce" (26), "Remote Soft Bounce" (27), "Remote Spam Bounce" (28) and "Remote Mailbox Full" (29).

"Action 1" or "Landing Page Click" An example of an un-named user-defined click.
System Created Actions Description
Viewed: xxxxx Where 'xxxxx' equals the name of the template within a creative. A Viewed: xxxxx is counted when a template is accessed using an embedded system viewlink.
Forwarded: xxxxx Where 'xxxxx' equals the name of the template within a creative. A Forwarded: xxxxx is counted when a template is forwarded using an embedded system Tell-A-Friend link.
Default Ratios Description
Delivery Rate Calculates message deliveries as a percentage of Message Sent minus Bounces. Formula = (Total[Email Submitted]-Total[Any Hard Bounce,Any Soft Bounce,Any Spam Bounce])%Total[Email Submitted]
Open Rate (Total) Calculates Opens as a percentage of Message Sent minus Bounces. Formula = (Total[Email Opened]%(Total[Email Submitted]-Total[Any Hard Bounce,Any Soft Bounce,Any Spam Bounce])
Open Rate (Unique) Calculates unique occurrences of Opens as a percentage of Message Sent minus Bounces. Formula = (Unique[Email Opened,Any Click]%(Total[Email Submitted]-Total[Any Hard Bounce,Any Soft Bounce,Any Spam Bounce])
Clicks to Delivered Calculates Any Click as a percentage of Messages Sent minus Bounces. Formula = Unique[Any Click]%(Total[Email Submitted]-Total[Any Hard Bounce,Any Soft Bounce,Any Spam Bounce])
Clicks to Opened Calculates Any Click as a percentage of Messages Opened. Formula = Unique[Any Click]%Unique[Email Opened,AnyClick]
Complaint Rate Calculates Complaints as a percentage of Messages Sent minus Bounces. Formula = Total[Complaint]
